IDIOMS

1.          a bed of roses : (comfortable) Life is not always a bed of roses.
2.          a bed of thorns: ( uncomfortable) Life of a poor person is always a bed of thorns.
3.          a bolt from the blue: ( sudden problem ) The news of his father's heart attack was a bolt from the blue.
4.          all in all: ( head ) His mother is all in all in his house.
5.          an apple of discord: (quarrelsome) Kashmir is an apple of discord between India and Pakistan.
6.          an axe to grind: ( selfish motive) You always have an axe to grind in every matter.
7.          at a stone’s throw: ( at some distance ) My house is situated at a stone's throw from the bus stand.
8.          at an arm’s length: ( away ) I keep bad company at an arm's length.
9.          beat about the bush: ( not talking to the point) He always beats about the bush.
10.     bell the cat: ( take the responsibility of  difficult work) Who will bell the cat.

16.     in good books: ( good in one's views ) He is in good books of his teacher.
17.     of no avail: ( useless) His effort to reconcile the two friends was of no avail.
18.     once in a blue moon: ( sometimes ) I visit the hospital once in a blue moon.
19.     the apple of one’s eye: ( dearer) She is the apple of her parents' eyes
